Job Title: Youth Director

Location: Mizrachi Synagogue, Sydney, Australia (Flexible to work from home)

Working Hours: 0.4 FTE (including Shabbat and Yom Tov)

Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience

Start Date: Immediate

 

Main Purpose:

The main purpose of the Youth Director role is to expand the involvement of our youth in religious and social activities. The Youth Director will provide a positive Jewish influence and encourage the Jewish development of the youth in our community. They will be proactive in building relationships with the youth, their families, and the broader community. The central purpose of the Youth Director is to increase youth participation in all synagogue activities.

General Duties:

  • Oversee and set the direction for youth programs, ensuring they occur weekly and during special events.
  • Plan and implement weekly Shabbat and Chaggim programs.
  • Oversee and coordinate a staff of madrichim (youth leaders).
  • Plan and implement the Bar and Bat Mitzvah program.
  • Organise and execute events for youth, such as Purim, Shavuot, Simchat Torah, and Chanukah celebrations.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with youth, their families, and the community.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to youth, fostering their Jewish identity and commitment.
  • Collaborate with other synagogue staff and community leaders to enhance youth engagement and participation.
  • Ensure all programs and activities align with the values and mission of Mizrachi Synagogue.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Jewish traditions, holidays, and customs.
  • Previous experience working with youth in a leadership capacity, preferably within a Jewish community setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and Jewish holidays.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organise, and execute programs and events.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Passionate about fostering a positive and inclusive Jewish environment for youth.
